Dynamic FPS Mod Download for Minecraft 26.3 NeoForge: Stop Your Idle Game Eating CPU and Battery
Dynamic FPS Mod Download for Minecraft 26.3 NeoForge gives you version 3.11.10 of a small client mod that drops the frame rate when the game window loses focus, gets minimized, or sits idle. Your game keeps running in the background, but it stops burning CPU and GPU power on frames nobody is watching. Click back into the window and full speed returns at once. It is a background saver, not a booster for active play.
Why an idle game still costs you power
Leave Minecraft running while you answer a message or wait for a friend to join, and the game keeps rendering at full speed behind everything else. On a desktop that shows up as fan noise. On a laptop it shows up as battery draining while you are not even playing. I ran into this every time I left a world open during a break.
Dynamic FPS fixes that one waste. It watches the state of the game window and changes what the client renders based on that state. When you are playing, nothing changes. When you step away, it throttles the render loop, quiets sounds, and pauses toast notifications until you come back. The game itself never stops.
If you play on a laptop or keep Minecraft open in the background for hours, this is one of the easiest wins in a performance setup. Sodium makes the game render faster while you play. Dynamic FPS makes it cost less while you do not.

What it does
Dynamic FPS tracks whether the Minecraft window is active, hovered over, unfocused, or invisible. For each state you can set a frame rate limit, a volume level, and whether toast notifications pause. It also covers idling, where you set your own timeout, and battery power, where a laptop or handheld on battery gets its own limits.
Dynamic FPS will only slow the client render loop to a minimum of 15 cycles per second. Lower rates come from cancelling rendered frames after that point. Set the unfocused rate to 1 FPS and the mod renders 15 frames per second internally, then drops 14 of them. That is why the game snaps back so fast: the client checks back within 1/15th of a second.
Two smaller fixes help low end systems. Dynamic FPS fixes a vanilla bug that caused higher background CPU use than needed, and it stops rendering the world while the resource loading overlay covers it. You notice them only in lower fan noise and lower power draw. Battery status on the HUD and battery toast notifications are optional extras. On a desktop, ignore them. Defaults apply as soon as the mod loads.
Key features
- Per state frame limits. Set a different frame rate for an active, hovered, unfocused, and invisible window.
- Per state volume control. Lower or mute game volume when the window loses focus.
- Toast notification pausing. Pause toast notifications while the game is unfocused or idle.
- Idle timeout. Pick a timeout after which the game throttles itself even if the window is still in front of you.
- Battery mode. Use separate limits when a laptop or handheld runs on battery.
- Instant resume. The 15 cycle per second floor keeps the client responsive, so returning to the game feels immediate.
Nothing here changes how your world looks or plays. No new blocks, no new mobs, no changed textures. The mod is invisible during active play by design.
Compatibility
This download is the NeoForge build for Minecraft 26.3. A separate Fabric and Quilt build of version 3.11.10 exists for the same Minecraft version, but the button on this page points only to the NeoForge jar. Do not drop the NeoForge jar into a Fabric instance or the other way around. The loader has to match.
| Detail | Dynamic FPS 3.11.10 |
|---|---|
| Minecraft version | 26.3 |
| Loader for this download | NeoForge |
| Other loaders with a 3.11.10 build | Fabric, Quilt |
| File | dynamic-fps-3.11.10+minecraft-26.3.0-neoforge.jar (about 182 KB) |
| Required dependency (NeoForge) | None |
| Optional dependency | Cloth Config API, for the in-game config screen |
| Side | Client only |
| Server install needed | No |
For the NeoForge build, the Modrinth API lists no required dependency and Cloth Config API as optional. Install Dynamic FPS on its own and it works. Add Cloth Config API if you want to open its settings from inside the game. The project page also lists Mod Menu alongside Cloth Config for the config screen, so install both if the screen does not appear after you add Cloth Config alone.
Dynamic FPS is client only, so servers do not need it. Install it on your own game and it works on any server you join. It also sits cleanly next to other performance mods. Lithium speeds up game logic and ticking. FerriteCore cuts memory use in large packs. Dynamic FPS covers power use when you are away.
Bedrock Edition is not supported. Dynamic FPS is a Java Edition mod for NeoForge, Fabric, and Quilt. This file will not load on a console, a phone, or Bedrock on Windows. On battery power, one extra note applies: the battery integration downloads an additional library at runtime. The mod ships with hashes for that library and checks them before use. You can turn that behavior off in the mod settings.
How to install
Install NeoForge for Minecraft 26.3 first if you do not have it yet. Our NeoForge install guide covers that part. Once NeoForge runs, Dynamic FPS takes about two minutes.
- Download the jar with the button above.
- Open the Minecraft launcher, pick the NeoForge 26.3 profile, and launch the game once so the mods folder is created. Close the game.
- Open the mods folder. In the launcher, go to Installations, hover over the NeoForge profile, click the folder icon, then open the mods folder inside.
- Drop the Dynamic FPS jar into the mods folder. Do not unzip it.
- Optional: drop the matching Cloth Config API jar for NeoForge 26.3 into the same folder if you want the in-game config screen.
- Launch the NeoForge profile again. Alt tab away and back once to confirm the frame rate drops and returns.
If you use Prism Launcher or another third party launcher, the steps are the same except for where the mods folder lives. Open the instance folder, find the .minecraft folder inside it, and use its mods folder. To change settings, open the config screen if you installed Cloth Config. Start with the defaults and change one setting at a time.
Safety and download caveat
Download Dynamic FPS only from its official Modrinth page. The button on this page links straight to the official Modrinth CDN file, so clicking it starts the jar download at once. Avoid reupload sites, file mirrors, and videos that bundle the mod with an installer. Repacked installers are the usual way junk software reaches a Minecraft install, and a 182 KB jar does not need an installer.
Check the file name after it downloads. It should read dynamic-fps-3.11.10+minecraft-26.3.0-neoforge.jar. A different name, a zip file, or an exe file means you picked up the wrong file. Delete it and go back to the Modrinth page. Never enter a Minecraft password, a Microsoft password, or any personal information into a mod download page. A real mod never asks for those.
Troubleshooting
The game still shows 15 FPS when unfocused
This is normal behavior, not a bug. Dynamic FPS keeps the render loop at a minimum of 15 cycles per second and cancels extra frames to reach your set rate. A counter that reads the render loop can still show 15 even when only 1 frame per second reaches your screen. Judge the mod by fan noise and power draw, not by that counter alone.
The mod does not load at all
Check three things in order. First, confirm the jar is in the mods folder of the NeoForge 26.3 instance, not a Fabric instance and not the base game folder. Second, confirm the launcher profile reads 26.3. Third, confirm the file is the NeoForge jar and not the Fabric jar. A crash log that names Dynamic FPS on a Fabric profile almost always means the wrong jar.
No config screen appears
Dynamic FPS works without a config screen, so a missing screen does not mean the mod failed. The project page lists Mod Menu and Cloth Config as requirements for the in-game config screen. Install matching versions of both and restart the game. If the screen still does not appear, the mod still throttles on its defaults.
Frame rate does not drop when you alt tab
Check whether the window is truly unfocused. A window on a second monitor with the mouse hovering over it counts as hovered, not unfocused, and gets the hovered limit. Try minimizing the window outright. If the rate drops on minimize but not on alt tab, lower the hovered limit.
FAQ
Does Dynamic FPS raise my FPS while playing?
No. It does not touch rendering while the window is active. It only lowers the frame rate when the window is unfocused, minimized, invisible, idle, or on battery. For higher FPS during play, pair it with a rendering mod such as Sodium.
Do I need to install it on a server?
No. Dynamic FPS is client only. Install it on your computer and it works on every server you join. Server owners do not need to add it.
Does it work with Sodium, Lithium, and FerriteCore?
Yes. Those mods change rendering speed, game logic, and memory use. Dynamic FPS changes background power use. They do different work, so they do not conflict.
Is there a Fabric version?
Yes. Version 3.11.10 also has a Fabric and Quilt build for Minecraft 26.3, and the Fabric build requires Fabric API. The button on this page is the NeoForge build only. Pick the file that matches your loader from the official Modrinth page.
Will it pause my game in single player?
It does not pause the world. The game keeps running, mobs keep moving, and farms keep working. Only rendering and sounds throttle. If you need the world itself to stop, use the pause menu instead.
Honest verdict
Dynamic FPS is a small mod with a narrow job, and it does that job well. If you alt tab a lot, leave Minecraft open during breaks, or play on a laptop, install it and forget about it. Lower background power use, quieter fans, and longer battery life are real gains, and the instant resume means you pay almost nothing for them. If you only play in focused bursts and close the game when you stop, you will barely notice it. It costs about 182 KB and no active performance. It will not raise your FPS in a fight, and it will not fix a slow computer.
